During an interview with the media, 49ers tight end Vernon Davis didn’t sound very optimistic that he’ll play in tomorrow’s game against the Cardinals.
At various points during Friday’s interview, Davis said he felt “OK” and “all right” and acknowledged “taking it easy” during practice. He sounded not at all like a player expecting to return to action.
Coach Jim Harbaugh described Davis as “on course” to play, but Harbaugh routinely overstates an injured player’s chances of coming back. Davis, asked if he’s confident about facing Arizona, replied, “A little bit. I know my teammates are, but I’ve just got to get a little more comfortable.”
With the loss of wide receiver Mario Manningham for the remainder of the season, and with the possibility of not having Davis for tomorrow’s game will only hurt the 49ers even more.
